The market for early beets in Russia has experienced a decrease in prices, according to analysts of the EastFruit project. At the same time, the cost of this root crop today still remains a record high.
Today the farmers of the Southern Federal District offer beets from this harvest at 50-60 RUB/kg ($ 0.69-0.83/kg), while a week earlier the price in the region did not fall below 70 RUB/kg ($ 0, 97/kg). So, beets have fallen in price by an average of 26% in just a week.
Such a significant reduction in the cost of new harvest table beets, according to producers is associated with a rather sharp increase in the supply of early beets on the market. Most of the growers managed to start harvesting this week which they had previously been forced to postpone due to rains.
It should be noted that despite the downward price trend in the segment of table beets, their prices are on average 4.2 times more expensive than at the end of June last year. Key market players explain this by the increased demand in the segment of table beets; it is also worth considering that only a few growers are currently selling beets of last year harvest.
