Uzbekistan exported five times more table grapes in January-February 2022 than in 2021

In January-February 2022, Uzbekistan exported 9 400 tonnes of table grapes worth $7.2 million. This is 5 times more in volume  and 4.6 times more in terms of export earnings compared to the same months of 2021, EastFruit analysts report based on data by the country’s Customs Committee.

However, the export of Uzbek table grapes in January-February 2021 turned out to be the lowest over the past three years and was 3-3.5 times lower than in the same period of 2019-2020, which explains the multiple growth rate. However, the growth in table grape exports in the first two months of this year was quite solid. Compared to previous years, exports in January-February 2022 in physical terms were 36% more than in the same period of 2020 and 62% more than in the same period of 2019.

90% of Uzbek table grapes exported in January-February 2022 were supplied to two countries – Russia (45%) and Kazakhstan (45%), and 9% – to Kyrgyzstan (7%) and Belarus (2%). Thus, about 99% of the total export volume was shipped to the markets of these four countries.

As EastFruit experts noted earlier, table grapes became second after cherries in the fresh fruit segment in terms of export growth rates by volume in 2021. The table grape export season from Uzbekistan starts in the second half of June. In the current season – from the beginning of June 2021 to the end of February 2022, Uzbekistan exported 223 000 tonnes worth $152.9 million, which is a record figure at least over the past 10 years. The previous record was set in the 2020/2021 season in the amount of 133 000 tonnes worth $127 million.
