A positive price trend remains on the cabbage market in Russia, where the price has reached a ten-year maximum, analysts of the EastFruit project report. According to Russian producers, despite the expected decline in trade, traditionally accompanied by price stabilization during the New Year holidays, cabbage market maintained high sales rates, causing the growth of prices.
Today, white cabbage is sold at 40-50 RUB/kg ($0.53-0.67/kg), which is on average 11% more expensive than at the end of December last year. Market players say that one of the main reasons for the price rise was the overall reduction in the supply of cabbage in the market, since many producers completed the sale of their stocks in the pre-holiday period. It should also be noted that wholesale companies that have sold the previously purchased volumes have started quick replenishment of stocks, thereby stimulating an increase in white cabbage prices.

In addition, the current prices for white cabbage in Russia are on average 4 times higher than in the same period last year. According to key market players, the main reason why cabbage price continues to rise is the low harvest in most regions of Russia. The weather last summer was extremely unfavorable for the normal ripening of medium and late varieties, which is why the demand for cabbage clearly outweighs its real supply on the market now. This, in turn, suggests a further increase in prices in this market segment.
