Despite the limited supply of local greenhouse cucumbers, Polish producers are forced to reduce prices for their products, according to analysts of the EastFruit project. Market operators explain the decrease in prices in the segment of local cucumber by a noticeable increase in the supply of imported products from Spain, while demand in this segment from wholesale companies and retail chains remains rather low.
Today, Polish greenhouses are ready to ship cucumber at $1.35-1.62/kg, which is on average 10% cheaper than at the end of the last working week.
Market operators associate this price situation with the fact that wholesale companies and retail chains are increasingly refusing to purchase large quantities of greenhouse cucumbers citing low sales rates in retail. As a result, significant volumes of unsold products have already accumulated in the warehouses of companies, the quality of which is deteriorating.

As a result, a greenhouse cucumber in Poland today costs on average 28% less than at the beginning of December last year. In the same period of 2019, prices for these products on the Polish market started at $1.95/kg. Industry experts do not exclude the possibility of a further price reduction in this segment if the situation with sales rates does not change.
